How will this work?
Each year, CatholicsRead will highlight three books from the Bible or themes. For the first few years at least the books will be related to the liturgical cycle. Publisher members of CBPA are invited to offer a books from their lists that are related to the featured biblical books themselves or to a major theme of the biblical books. The site will also include supplemental resources: Bibles, Study Guides, Biographies, Children's Books, Loss and Grieving, Music, Spirituality and Prayer Books.
For the year that featured the book of Job, suitable books for the program might range from a scholarly exegesis on Job to a prayer book on suffering. In this way, we hope to involve publishers serving a wide range of readers.
CatholicsRead will be driven by a number of factors, but a newly established internet site, www.CatholicsRead.org, will be an integral part of the program. There, the reader will find basic information about the program, the featured books, historical information, author biographies, and other related material. There will also be information about bible translations and versions that are available.
On this web site, participating publishers will also provide a descriptions of each of their titles, along with the ISBN number and the cost of each book. To purchase books, the reader will be offered a choice of browsing a list of bookstores to locate one in their area or linking directly to the publisher's site. The site will archive previous year's programs to allow for continuous study.
The CatholicsRead program will be featured as a CBPA Co-op Booth Exhibit at the Religious Booksellers Trade Exhibit and a mailing will be sent to all bookstores on our mailing list. The mailing will include the current CBPA Directory; a flyer describing the program; information on how the CBPA will help bookstores participate (posters, signage, press releases and flyers); a list of the featured books.
